Yorkshire Terriers, affectionately known as "Yorkies," offer big personalities in a small package. Though they are members of the Toy Group, they are terriers by nature and are brave, determined, investigative, and energetic. They have long, luxurious coats that are hypoallergenic. This portable pooch was rated number 10 on the list of most popular breeds in 2018, according the AKC® Registration Statistics. They earned a spot on the Top 5 Toy Dogs list.
According to AKC, no dog breeds are 100% hypoallergenic. Fortunately, there are a number of dogs that are much less likely to trigger a reaction to the allergen. Yorkshire terriers are one of those breeds. The allergens are not found on the Yorkies' coat; making them a great companion for those that struggle with a canine allergy.

The American Kennel Club is dedicated to upholding the integrity of its Registry, promoting the sport of purebred dogs and breeding for type and function. Founded in 1884, the AKC® and its affiliated organizations advocate for the purebred dog as a family companion, advance canine health and well-being, work to protect the rights of all dog owners and promote responsible dog ownership. Unlike many registries, AKC requires breeders to provide DNA. This ensures that breeds are not crossed and that the integrity of the breed and AKC stays true. The American Kennel Club (AKC) is the only dog registry that ensures the integrity of the breed. The AKC was founded in 1884 for dogs of purebred standards. No dogs that are mixed breed are allowed in the AKC. For your dog to be an AKC dog, it means that every one of his/her ancestors were AKC registered as well.
The AKC, a not-for-profit registry, does so many things for dogs everywhere. Some of these things include:
·Kennel Inspections: The AKC inspects thousands of kennels a year to ensure the safety and welfare of dogs.
·Canine Health Research: The AKC has donated over $20 million to fund sound scientific research to prevent, treat and cure canine disease.
·Search & Rescue: The AKC has donated over $3 million to Canine Search & Rescue and pet-related disaster relief and preparedness efforts.
·Lost Dog Recovery: The AKC offers recovery services 24/7, 365 days a year, and has reunited over 400,000 lost dogs with their families.
